Varanasi: Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami Raises Important Issues in the Central Regional Council Meeting

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the 25th meeting of the Central Regional Council, led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, held in Varanasi. This meeting was attended by Chief Ministers from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, among other dignitaries. Chief Minister Dhami emphasized several crucial issues concerning the state of Uttarakhand.

Key Issues Addressed

During the meeting, CM Dhami underscored the need for expansion of road and communication facilities in border areas. He stated that the strategic position of Uttarakhand, bordering international boundaries, significantly necessitates proper infrastructure for security and logistics support. He urged the Union Home Minister to enhance assistance through the Border Roads Organization.

Moreover, Dhami called for the development of facilities in border villages under the Vibrant Villages program to mitigate migration challenges. To further bolster communication in remote areas, he sought the initiation of the Bharatnet project, expansion of 4G services, and the implementation of satellite communication services in Uttarakhand.

Policy Relaxations for State Interests

Chief Minister Dhami also requested the Central Government to consider relaxing certain policy provisions beneficial for Uttarakhand. He proposed a one-time allocation of central assistance for the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme and additional help for effective operation of the Prime Minister's Rural Road Scheme. He advocated for the establishment of a high-level Glacier Study Center to examine climate change impacts and technical support for creating a biodiversity conservation institution in the region.

Recognizing the potential for adventure tourism, Dhami pushed for establishing an International Adventure Sports Training Center and sought support for the grand organization of the Nanda Raj Jaat Yatra in 2026 and the Kumbh Mela in 2027.

Environmental and Economic Perspectives

Highlighting Uttarakhand’s unique geographical location, Dhami noted that 71% of the state is covered by forests. Despite facing various natural disasters, the state has showcased robust economic activities, achieving a significant growth rate. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) ranking released by NITI Aayog placed Uttarakhand at the top in 2023-24, showcasing the state's governance and financial management effectiveness.

Furthermore, steps are being taken towards a Uniform Civil Code, and stringent anti-copying, anti-conversion laws are being implemented to create a harmonious and secure state. Initiatives like Vokal for Local and the introduction of India's first 'Yoga Policy' signify remarkable strides towards self-reliance and cultural heritage preservation.

CM Dhami concluded that the previous meetings of the Central Regional Council have facilitated the resolution of numerous policy and inter-state issues.
