Pauri Garhwal: Police Achieves Major Success, Captures Inter-State Mewati Gang Involved in Chain Robberies During Fairs and Festivals, Team Awarded Ten Thousand Rupees

Breaking News, Daily Updates & Exclusive Stories - kharchaapani

In a remarkable achievement, the Pauri police have successfully apprehended an inter-state Mewati gang that has been linked to a series of chain robberies during various fairs and festivals. The police team’s commendable efforts in this case have earned them a cash reward of ten thousand rupees, highlighting their dedication and efficiency in maintaining law and order.

The Incident

Driven by a commitment to curb crime, Police Captain Lokeshwar Singh directed the Laxman Jhula police station’s officer, Santosh Paithwal, to monitor suspicious activities around temples, dharamshalas, and various religious functions in the Laxman Jhula area. The focus was placed on safeguarding devotees participating in the ongoing religious gatherings along the banks of the Ganges, especially during the busy season of fairs and festivals.

On June 5, a significant incident at Gita Bhawan No. 3 came to light when Dinesh Dalmia reported a chain snatching that occurred in the midst of a spiritual gathering. The suspects targeted elderly women and devotees, creating chaos as they swiftly made away with gold chains valued at an estimated seven and a half lakh rupees.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Responding to the complaint, police quickly registered a case against unknown offenders under relevant sections of the law. Under the supervision of Area Officer Anuj Kumar, specialized teams were formed to unearth the culprits behind this crime. The investigation involved analyzing dozens of CCTV footages from the vicinity and looking into the records of previously known criminals.

The police's rigorous efforts bore fruit when they tracked down members of the Mewati gang in the vicinity of the Chandi Devi Temple. The authorities arrested five active gang members, including the gang leader Sushma Singh, along with four accomplices from different states. These suspects were reportedly part of a larger network involved in targeting elderly women during festivals and fairs, where they would survey the area beforehand to plan their illicit activities effectively.

Detailed Findings

During interrogations, the suspects disclosed their modus operandi, where they preferred to dress similarly to the crowd of devotees, making it easier to blend in and execute their plans without raising suspicions. In a startling revelation, they also mentioned that they wore the same clothes used in previous successful robberies, believing this brought them good luck.

This gang has been linked to multiple thefts in famous spiritual locations across the country, including the Khatu Shyam Temple in Rajasthan and the sacred sites of Varanasi and Haridwar. They had reportedly been surveilling potential targets in the Haridwar area prior to their capture.

Ongoing Efforts and Community Support

The police are also collaborating with the State Crime Records Bureau and the National Crime Records Bureau for a comprehensive understanding of the gang's criminal history. The proactive measures taken by the Laxman Jhula police have garnered appreciation from local residents and spiritual leaders alike, asserting the officers' commitment to ensuring the safety of all.

An appreciation ceremony led to the Pauri police team receiving the ten-thousand-rupee reward as a token of recognition for their hard work and efficiency. As stated by Officer Santosh Paithwal, "We are committed to taking stringent action against such criminal elements and will continue to ensure our community remains safe." The arrested individuals have been presented before the court for further legal proceedings.

In conclusion, the successful operation against the Mewati gang showcases the resilience and dedication of the Pauri police in tackling crime, reaffirming their role in safeguarding the community during festive seasons. For more updates, visit kharchaapani.
