Instructions for Development and Planning
Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan emphasized the need for quality construction of ghats and the importance of greenery in the surrounding area. “Wherever possible, provisions for greenery must be included,” he asserted. He directed the officials to present a comprehensive project plan for Kumbh 2027 by the end of August. “Priority should be given to works that are absolutely essential, ensuring the timely completion of both permanent and temporary structures,” he added.
Safety Measures and Infrastructure Audit
During the meeting, safety was a primary concern. The Chief Secretary instructed that all bridges in the Kumbh area undergo an immediate safety audit. Furthermore, he called for a detailed circulation plan for the entire Kumbh area, particularly to manage the expected surge in visitors during significant festivals. He urged plans for entry and exit points to be well defined and convenient for the influx of devotees.
Collaboration with Railways and Parking Solutions
Enhancing railway station facilities around the Kumbh zone was another directive from the Chief Secretary. Discussions with the Ministry of Railways are to be initiated to expand and beautify the railway infrastructure to accommodate crowds during the Mela. The meeting also highlighted the necessity for creating holding areas at railway stations during peak times and securing private land for parking facilities.
Facility Improvements at Ghats
To facilitate pilgrims, it was discussed that the stairs at the ghats should meet standard specifications to avoid difficulties for the devotees. The provision of changing rooms and benches for resting near the ghats was also mentioned. The focus is on completing the construction of these critical facilities without any delays, particularly during the canal closures.
Expenditure Finance Committee Recommendations
The Expenditure Finance Committee approved several projects, including the widening and strengthening of key roads connecting Haridwar, Dehradun, and other surrounding regions. Important irrigation projects were also discussed, which involve the construction of new ghats along the upper Ganges canal, enhancing the infrastructure significantly.
This meeting marks a decisive step towards ensuring that preparations for Kumbh 2027 are on track, showcasing the government's commitment to facilitating a spiritually enriching experience for millions of visitors.
