Dehradun: Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan Hoists National Flag on 79th Independence Day

On the auspicious occasion of India's 79th Independence Day, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan hoisted the national flag at the Secretariat in Dehradun on Friday. This solemn ceremony was attended by various dignitaries including principal secretaries, secretaries, additional secretaries, and employees of the Secretariat, along with children who came to receive well wishes for the national festival.

Paying Tribute to Freedom Fighters

During the event, Chief Secretary Bardhan paid homage to both known and unknown freedom fighters who dedicated their lives for the country's independence. He emphasized that the nation owes a great debt to these heroes. "This day reminds us of the sacrifices, courage, and dedication of countless freedom fighters who gifted us the invaluable treasure of freedom," he stated.

Commitment to Development in Uttarakhand

In his address, Bardhan underscored Uttarakhand's commitment to achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047. He shared that this vision is not just a concept but is being diligently worked upon in the state. "With your cooperation, the vision of a prosperous and empowered Uttarakhand is rapidly becoming a reality," he stated. He highlighted the state's significant achievements across various sectors in recent years, which have facilitated the progress towards a more robust Uttarakhand.

Vision for Manufacturing and Tourism

Bardhan outlined the strategy to position Uttarakhand as a manufacturing hub, skill hub, and global tourism destination by 2047. He stressed the necessity for hard work to bring this vision to fruition. "We can enhance the livelihood in Uttarakhand through local products, coarse grains, and mountain crops," he suggested. The Chief Secretary pointed out that empowering small and medium farmers is crucial for the state's progress.

Improving Governance and Administrative Reforms

In his address, Bardhan emphasized the importance of governance reforms and administrative improvements starting from the state Secretariat and districts. He called for an initiative to increase capacity building in the administration, especially in the face of rising natural disasters.

“We are currently reviewing and evaluating projects through the PM Gati Shakti Portal in our state for efficient monitoring,” he mentioned. The Chief Secretary noted that the online application system for the housing department has been recognized as a best practice by the Government of India.

Promoting Water Conservation and Local Development

Further enhancing the state’s initiatives, Bardhan discussed the establishment of the Spring and River Rejuvenation Authority aimed at identifying and ensuring sustainable use of natural water sources. He expressed joy in the ongoing development of "House of Himalaya” as a brand that supports rural and economic development through local engagement.

Highlighting the pivotal role of the Secretariat in shaping policies and guiding the state and nation towards development, Bardhan called upon all staff to perform their duties with integrity and dedication. “Let us collaborate to ensure that every decision we make contributes to the progress of our nation and the well-being of our people,” he urged.
